09 Nov EIVIND GULLBERG JENSEN APPOINTED CHIEF CONDUCTOR OF NORTH NETHERLANDS ORCHESTRA
The North Netherlands Orchestra (NNO) has appointed Eivind Gullberg Jensen as their new Chief Conductor from the 2022/23 season onwards.
Gullberg Jensen made his debut with the NNO in 2018, when he conducted Verdi’s Requiem very convincingly. In March 2021 the NNO gave two dazzling concerts with him, together with oboe soloist Albrecht Mayer and last September he conducted Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto and Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony.
The NNO musicians had a decisive say in the choice for Gullberg Jensen. Quirijn van den Bijlaard, trombonist and chairman of the Artistic Committee, says:
“Eivind Gullberg Jensen is an excellent conductor who understands his profession, he is exceptionally good artistically and technically. In addition, he is very involved, seeks the connection with the musicians and really wants to make music together with the orchestra: to give a concert that is more than the sum of its parts.”
“Eivind Gullberg Jensen is a top conductor who can lift the orchestra to a higher level, he is an extremely committed connector. Nothing escapes him during rehearsals and during the concerts you experience magic! An inspiring modern conductor of our time. His gesticulation and craftmanship are phenomenal and his interpretations are breathtaking.”
Marcel Mandos, artistic leader of the NNO:
“From the first time I met the NNO, I felt a special connection with the players. I have been deeply impressed by both the super quality of playing and commitment during rehearsals and they go the extra-mile in the concerts. I look forward to forging a deeper relationship with them.”
Eivind Gullberg Jensen:
“On Thursday 27 January, Friday 28 January and Saturday 30 January 2022 Eivind Gullberg Jensen will conduct the Sibelius and Strauss program in De Oosterpoort in Groningen, Theater DNK in Assen and Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.”
