Jensen, conducting from memory, was a study in eloquent willowy gesture resulting in superb phrasing, precise and detailed dynamics and some thrilling playing." — Bachtrack “Norwegian conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen made the piece flow with his graceful gestures, indeed it was extraordinary to see such angular almost aggressive music expressed so smoothly." Bachtrack “High concept productions often demand musical distensions but, when heard and not seen, this La Bohemeis vital…full of discipline and integrity, thanks, no doubt to conductor Eivind Gullberg Jensen.” David Patrick Stearns Gramophone "Eivind Gullberg Jensen left the audience on the edge of their seats, teasing out both tonal and elegant instrumental details from the Munich Phil…so resolute and convincing was the interpretation from Gullberg Jensen, you didn’t miss any of the magical classicism. Certainly one of the best philharmonic concerts in this season." Klassikinfo "It was a superb Shostakovich that Eivind Gullberg Jensen delivered at the Philharmonie. The 41-year-old Norwegian powered the WDR Symphony Orchestra to a peak performance…Soulful cantilena, tempo, rhythmic clarity, a wide dynamic: all the qualities in the baton of a true maestro." Koelnische Rundschau “As for young Mr Jensen, I’d be thrilled if he was invited back after his culminating and climactic direction on Saturday, which conjured from the RSNO a glorious account of Rachmaninov’s Third Symphony, quivering with volatility from top to tail.” Herald Scotland “He has all the qualities for an excellent opera conductor: an authoritative conducting technique, the power to lead an orchestra tightly and multifaceted to drive the music forward and draw delicate moods as well as to savour dramatic climaxes. And he leads the singers with empathy, breathing with them.” Kronen zeitung: 19 Nov 2018
